Fantasmic!

Along the Rivers of America, Mickey Mouse conducts a musical extravaganza of good verses evil! Screens of water shoot up out of the water with projections of scenes from Fantasia where viewers follow Mickey’s dream. The show even has princesses, puppets and even pink elephants. Special effects, water projection, fiber optics pyrotechnics and lasers make this one of Disneyland’s must see events. From the beginning, guests are entertained by Disney characters - good and bad - until the final climactic scene against the dragon, and then the final exciting pyrotechnics show and characters finale on the Mark Twain Riverboat.

If you plan to view this exciting show, I suggest getting a seat early since the whole area is first come, first serve.  If you have small children, it is a good idea to get the sitting area, or the first row of the standing area so your children will be able to see the show. People will start settling down for the 9pm show at about 6:00, which is a little extreme, but you really should try to find a good spot. The show is shown every night during peak season and on weekend nights during the off season.

At the finally of the show, Mickey is confronted with a huge fire-breathing dragon, so some parents should have a heads up to cover little eyes if they think necessary. (Not to be a spoiler, but good does conquer evil!!!) When the show is totally over, if you stand where you can see the cable line that goes past the Matterhorn and you will have a great view for the fireworks right where you are!

A really component to the show is “Glow with the Show”.  Mickey ear hats are available to buy and the ears light up, but during the show they flash and match the beat! (also work for World of Color and locations in Cars Land).

Visit the Disneyland website or grab a show time schedule at the front of the park for the current show times.

Ride Profile: Haunted Mansion

“Dear Foolish Mortals, You are hereby invited to a spirited tour via "buggy" of the home and estate of a prosperous yet departed sea captain whose elegant 19th-century mansion in the New Orleans Square was once the setting for some of the most prominent social gatherings this side of the Mississippi.” One of Disneyland’s top 10 rides (as voted in the LA Times), the Haunted Mansion fun begins even before stepping into your buggy. If you have to wait in the queue pay special attention to the tombstones, as they can be very entertaining. Once you actually get into the house, guests gather into a room, where you soon realize that there are no windows and no doors, and the famous “ghost speech” is given. As with most Disney rides, the attention to detail is phenomenal! Do not rush to get to the ride itself, take not of the changing pictures and special statues in the hallway. When you do get into your buggy, the safety rail is magically lowered as you ...

World of Color

One of my absolute favorite things to view is World of Color. A combination of water, pyrotechnics and a lot of magic brings the Paradise Lagoon in California Adventure to life every evening! More than 1,000 water jets form screens and shapes that animations are projected onto. Although I have seen the show dozens of times, it never gets old, especially because as new Disney movies come out, they are incorporated into the show. If visiting both parks (or just DCA), be sure to get a fatspass for World of Color. The machines are right outside Grizzly Rapids and will have one of four colors (red, yellow, green, and blue), which is your viewing area during the show. Be sure to line up in your  specific area as soon as your fastpass tells you you can. Most people will sit down to wait for the show, which is fine, but be ready to wiggle to the front as people start to stand up. Another great way to get premium seating is through dining specials. Certain restaura...

Ride Profile: Indiana Jones

One of the most exciting rides at Disneyland is based from the popular movies Indiana Jones!  Opening in 1995, after being under construction for 7 years and costing Disney about $100 million! The ride can be found between Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Carrabin. Since it is a crowd pleaser, the line can get very long, so I highly recommend getting FASTPASS and coming back to the ride later in the afternoon when you can avoid the line. Single rider passes and parent swap passes are also available, just ask the Cast Member at the front. The ride “takes place” in the Forbidden Temple where famous archeologist, Indiana jones, helps guide your’ ride, making sure you make it to the end. Visitors MUST NOT look into the eyes of the temple's idol, Mara, or an ancient curse will befall them. The ride moves through foreboding caverns adorned with flickering lights, mysterious wall etchings, ominous spikes, even-more ominous skeletons, and other diversions! On th...
